PHARMACEUTICAL PLANT AREA MEETS GACP-WHO STANDARD
Crinum latifolium L. plantation with an area of 20 hectares in Long
Thanh – Dong Nai established since 1994 has been cultivated, cared,
collected and stored under GACP – WHO (Good Agriculture and Collection
Practices – World Health Organization) criterion. As a result, Crinum
latifolium L. materials achieve high and stable bioactive substances.
Since 1990, we have chosen and selected Crinum latifolium L. varieties
detected by Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram based on specific genetic
characteristics (ADN), botanical morphology, and chemical substances of
Crinum latifolium L. Royal Virgin (Crinum latifolium L.) used as raw
materials for producing Crila, Crila Forte, Crilin supplement and Crinum
latifolium L. tea was published by Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram and Prof.
Dr. Sc. Tran Cong Khanh on Journal of Biology No. 2, Vol. 34 on June
2012 as a novel variety of Vietnamese Crinum latifolium species with its
scientific name – “Crinum latifolium L.” (Crinum latifolium L. var.
crilae Tram & Khanh) belonging to Amaryllidaceae family.
After selecting right Crinum latifolium L. varieties with bioactivity
prohibiting the growth of tumor cells and stimulating the immune system
used as raw materials for producing medicine, we chose Long Thanh – Dong
Nai as a place for the development of Crinum latifolium L. materials.
It was in this area that Dr. Tram found the Crinum latifolium L. having
bioactivity for the treatment of tumors, so the soil property and
climate here are suitable for the plant growth. The plantation has
favorable location which is 1 km away from main roads, unpolluted with
crowded residential areas, not near factories, enterprises, hospitals,
and cemeteries, with suitable climate for the plant. The plantation uses
water in accordance with national technical standards of running-water
quality according to provision QCVN 01: 2009/BYT issued by the Ministry
of Health. In cultivating process, no chemical fertilizers, growth
stimulants and pesticides are accepted but using hands or pheromones – a
synthetic substance with the same chemical structure as extract from
female worm provided by Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Cong Hao from Vietnam
Institute of Sciences and Technology – to catch caterpillars by luring
male caterpillars. This helps to prevent female ones from fertilizing
and laying eggs. Weeding is done by our own designed machine. Crinum
latifolium L. is collected when bioactive alkaloids from the leaves
reach the highest content, then it is washed with water meeting national
technical standards of running-water quality. In order to make sure
that bioactive substances are not decomposed due to high temperature, we
have established a drying process with appropriate temperature. Based
on the appraisal results by experts from the Ministry of Health, on
October 13th, 2011 the Drug Administration – Ministry of Health
certified Crinum latifolium L. plantation in Long Thanh – Dong Nai of
Thien Duoc Co., Ltd under GACP – WHO (Good Agriculture and Collection
Practices – World Health Organization) criterion. Now, our Crinum
latifolium L. plantation is the first medicinal material plantation in
Viet Nam under GACP-WHO.
