A group and an individual have won Kovalevskaya Award

12/26/2007

On December 25th morning 2007, Kovalevskaya Award Committee has given prize of the year to female group for their research work ‘Optical property of semiconductor materials and dielectric’ which belongs to the General Physics, Department of Physics, University of Science (VNU) and Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram - Director of  Research Development and Manufacture CRINA Center, under National phytopharma joint-stock company (Ministry of Health). Attending the ceremony were Nguyen Thi Binh - former Vice President, Chairman of the Vietnam Kovalevskaya Prize Committee, Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa - Chairman of Vietnam Women's Union, Mr. & Mrs. Kobliz - the founders, the representatives from ministries and branches.

The work ‘Optical property of semiconductor materials and dielectric’ of female scientists group of the General Physics, Department of Physics, University of Science (VNU) is an approach to international science and technology standard. The authors have succeeded in producing Nanomaterials by physical methods such as deposition, chemical methods such as sol-gel, hydrothermal, co-precipitation. These have significance in training workforce for science and technology, avoiding the backwardness about knowledge as well as related scientific issues. An important contribution of this female group is operating, exploiting, and preserving measurement systems on fluorescence, as well as encouraging and promoting effectively this modern equipment to serve work not only in school but also in other researching and teaching institutes.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram is a female scientist having a large number of research works in pharmaceutical field, with useful products that combine tradition and modern, serving community. Crila capsule, which can treat uterine fibroids and BPH, is extracted from Crinum latifolium L. This wild herb has been genetically studied to be domesticated and planted to create sustainable material sources for drugs. Her centre has applied modern technology to make products cheaper, have potential for export to other countries, and then create jobs for society. This is also the first capsule in the world to treat uterine fibroids for women. On this occasion, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Vietnam Women's Union have presented gifts to outstanding female students of natural sciences.
