In the afternoon of September 16th, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City held Closing Ceremony for the 4th Ho Chi Minh City Patent Award (2015-2016).

Ho Chi Minh City Patent Award is launched by the Department of Science and Technology every 2 years. Over the past four years, 29 initiatives awards have been awarded. 2015-2016 is the fourth time this ceremony has been held, with the coordination between the City People's Committee and Ho Chi Minh City Intellectual Property Association. The fourth Ho Chi Minh City Patent Award (2015-2016) is awarded to 10 authors including 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 1 third prize and 4 consolation prizes.

It is known that the difference in the city's patent consideration method compared to other technical creative contests is that the patents competing in the contest have been exclusively protected at home or abroad. In which, the first prize was awarded to Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram - Director of Thien Duoc Co., Ltd., the author and owner of two inventions named Patent No. 1168 named “Selective extraction process of bioactive alkaloid fraction from Crinum latifolium L. leaves to treat cancer disease” and “Selective extraction process of bioactive flavonoid fraction from Crinum latifolium L. leaves to treat cancer disease”.  

Starting from the Plant Variety Protection Certificate in 2015 for Crinum latifolium L., which are specially selected to create raw materials, the author has obtained the Patent of Utility Solution No. 483 and conducted technology transfer to launch to the market Crila medicine for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and uterine fibroids, widely distributed nationwide since 2005 with the revenue now exceeding VND 200 billion, and exported to the United States for the first step.

Since then, the author has enough resources to invest in the establishment of Thien Duoc Co., Ltd under GMP-WHO, GSP, GLP standards, and so on; Another first prize is awarded to “Set of table and chair used for the prevention and treatment of spinal diseases” under the Patent of Utility Solutions No. 1375 by Dr. Pham Thi Kim Loan – the author and also owner.
